Aware roundabout named after Leipzig City
Addis Ababa, March 12, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - The roundabout located around the area called “Aware” in Yeka sub-city named after Leipzig City of Germany was inaugurated here Friday.

It was noted that Addis Ababa and Leipzig sisterly cities had signed twin city agreement that includes urban management, business exchange, health, education, social, environmental, solid waste management , culture, art and sport issues in 2004.

The renewal agreement was also signed between the two cities same day.

Mayor of the Addis Ababa City Administration Kuma Demekissa said the square dedicated to further enhance the twined and people to people relations of the two cites.

The Leipzig city is a reliable partner for Addis Ababa growth and prosperity.

He said the square would serve as a living testimony of true desire for fraternity and collaboration.

The mayor said the twined cities have executed a number of fruitful partnerships that have positive impacts on both cites.

Kuma mentioned a case in point the construction of a zoological park in the metropolis in collaboration with Leipzig city of Germany.

A consultative workshop among experts from the two cites and important stakeholders are a step forward for the realization of world class Zoological gardens for Addis Ababa.

Mayor of Leipzig city Burkhard Jung on his part said the inaugurated square in the name of his city will enhance development cooperation between the two cites.

He said his city has strong desire to further bolster the cooperation with Addis Ababa city administration.

Leipzig is the second largest city in the eastern part of Germany inhabited by an over 520,000 residents.

German ambassador to Ethiopia, officials from both cites, Germans residing in Addis Ababa and residents of the city were at the inauguration ceremony.
