City Striving to Raise Water Coverage To 80 Per Cent: Mayor
Addis Ababa, March 12, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - Addis Ababa City Mayor said the activities being made to raise water coverage in the city to 80 per cent from existing 73 per cent would further be strengthened.

The Mayor, Kuma Demeksa told journalists after his visit to one of the water wells intended to make the city self-reliant in water on Thursday that the effort in this regard would further be consolidated.

The sinking of some 40 water wells is well in progress in Akakai Subterranean water surface.

So far, the city administration has managed to raise the water coverage to 73 per cent from 52 per cent.

Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Deputy Manager, Engineer Wondimu Tekele said on his part the project would enable to produce 73,000 more cubic meters of water.

He said work on the construction of 10 of the 15 water wells has already been finalized.
