Addis Ababa, February 23, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - President Girma Wolde-giorgis said investors have a significant role to play in making Ethiopia as one of middle income economies in the world. While addressing a seminar that discusses solar energy ethnological development and its importance to Ethiopia that opened here on Tuesday, the President said local and foreign investors should exploit the convenient investment atmosphere created by the government in this regard.
He said Ethiopia has vast renewable energy potential that can be used for development purposes.
Girma said the government has introduced several incentives to encourage investors to work in the energy development sector.
Tax exemption to investors engaged in renewable energy sector is a living example for this.
This, he said, will help the country use its vast renewable energy potential.
He also called up on JV World Solar System Company to strengthen its solar energy development activities and benefit rural community members.
Speaking on the occasion, Mines and Energy State Minister, Sinknesh Ejigu said energy plays a key role in reducing poverty and achieve fast development.
She said Ethiopia has not well exploited so far its energy potential with the exception of its hydro energy resources.
However, the country has now embarks up on the development of all of its energy sources.
