Addis Ababa, May 8, 2009 (Addis Ababa) - The Ministry of Water Resources said it has been undertaking various Water Resource Development Projects at a cost of over 728 million birr over the last nine months.
Some 22 of the on-going projects have already been completed accomplished in the reported period, public relations and information service head with the ministry, Bizuneh Tolicha told ENA.
The projects include, among others, feasibility studies on provision safe water and sanitation, basin and irrigation development, construction of hydroelectric power stations, he said, adding the budget for the execution of 13 water projects was fully covered by the government.
Feasibility studies on basin and irrigation development sector were launched on Lake Tana and on Gumara Rivers, he said, relevant studies were also conducted on Genalle-6, Wabishebelle, and Beko-Abo Rivers.
Meanwhile, he said, flood prevention and anti flooding early-warning activities have also been executed during the reported period with the fund secured from the government, loans, and grants.
According to the head, the projects and capacity building endeavors carried out during the reported period have reportedly benefited some 3 million people.
