Addis Ababa, July 3, 2009 (Addis Ababa) - Over 600,000 youth would take part in summer (Kiremt) voluntary program aiming at supporting ongoing development activities across the nation.Information and Communication head with the Addis Ababa Youth and Sport Bureau, Nigatu Dagnachew told a press conference here on Friday that the program would focus on environmental protection, sports, democracy, human rights, good governance, education, prevention and control of HIV, among others.
About 14,000 youth would provide tutorial education to 99,000 students.
Various youth associations including the Addis Ababa Youth Federation, the Addis Ababa Youth Association, the Addis Ababa Youth Forum and Youth Associations of the Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and the South Ethiopia People’s State would participate in the program.
He said the Addis Ababa Youth and Sport and Education Bureaus, HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office and Environment Protection Authority would also take part in the program.
Since its inception five years ago, some 1.2 million youth took part in the program.
