Ethiopia Secures 446 Million US Dollars From Export of Oil Seeds, Pulses
Addis Ababa, December 28, 2009 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopia has secured over 466 million US dollars from the export of oil seeds and cereals during 2001Ethioipian fiscal year, the Ethiopian Pulses, Oilseeds and Spices, Exporters Association said.

While awarding prizes to exporters with outstanding contributions made in generating large amounts of export revenue here on Monday, Association President Dr. Muse Yakon said the export revenue obtained during the reported period was an all-time high.

He said the amount of the annual export revenue the country gets from oilseeds and pulses which was 40 million USD on average in the last eight years has increased to 446 million USD last year.

This shows a 20 per cent growth compared to that of 2000 Ethiopian fiscal year.

Trophies, medals and certificates were awarded to the exporter with higher export performances.

Agriculture and Rural Development State Minister, Yakob Yala handed over the prizes to the awardees.

Speaking on the occasion, Yakob said the contributions of oilseeds and pulses was not significant previously. Now they become one of the top important export products.
