A/A, May 31, 2008 (jijiga) - Deputy Prime Minister Addisu Legesse made his presence at the flood accident site in Jijjiga town, Somali State, and comforted those affected. The number of people killed by the flood reached 29.Addisu along with federal authorities made it to Jijjiga on Saturday and pledged swift relief response of his government to those affected.
The federal government in collaboration with the regional government will find ways to rehabilitate the more than 200 people and their families who have been affected by the disaster.
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
Somali regional state chief Abdulahi Hassan on the occasion said so far 29 people have been confirmed dead.
The flood also destroyed 161 houses and washed away domestic animals.
Abdulahi also said two police members and 37 people who were on a rescue mission have sustained heavy injuries.
Those injured in the accident are under medical care at Jijjiga and Kara mara hospitals.
