Meles attests Ethiopia's commitment to contribute for success of African-European summit
Addis Ababa, October 25, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Ethiopia would provide the necessary support for the success of African-European summit due to be held in Lisbon,Portugal.

Meles received a message from Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The Premier also conferred with United Nations Secretary General Special Representative for Prevention of Genocide and Mass attrocities, Francouis Beng.

Discussing with the European Union Commission Director General for Development, Stefano Manservisi, at his office on Thursday, Meles said Ethiopia would contribute its share for the success of African-European summit which would be held in Lisben, Portugal in December 2007.

The leaders at the summit are expected to discuss on ways of enhancing cooperation between the continents.

The summit is also expected to assess the major problems in Africa and ways of facilitating condition to address the problems, senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attended the discussion said.

During the discussion Manservisi briefed Meles about the preparation being undertaken for the summit, the official said.

Furthermore, the two parties discussed about the current situation in the Horn of Africa.

Manservisi is here to attend the launching program of the EU and Africa Infrastructure Partnership.

Meanwhile, Meles, on the same day, received a message sent from Ugandan President Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni through his special envoy and Minster of Security, Amama Mbabazi.

Meles and the Special Envoy also deliberated on the Ethio-Uganda bilateral cooperation.

After delivering the message, the Special Envoy told journalists that the relation between Ethiopia and Uganda is in good shape.

Besides discussing on bilateral issues, Mbabazi said, the discussion was focused on the issues regarding the Horn of Africa.

Similarly, Prime Minster Meles conferred with the UN Secretary General Special Representative for Prevention of Genocide and Mass attrocities, Francouis Beng.

The discussion was focused on issues of Ethiopia and neighboring countries.

The Special Representative also held discussion with Meles on how he can discharge his duties and responsibilities effectively.
