Trial rice development witnesses encouraging result
Gondar, October 25, 2007 (Gondar) - Trial development of rice being undertaken in Metema Woreda, North Gondar Zone of the Amhara State has come up with encouraging results, Gondar Agricultural Research Center said.

Some 45 quintals of rice is harvested per hectare from the selected rice species develop on settlers’ land in the woreda.

Speaking at a field visit recently, center head, Biruhe-alem Kasa said the encouraging result was obtained from three species of rice develop during the last two years.

The development of rice would help the settlers to enhance their effort of attaining food security.

The rice development was first launched by 37 farmers in the woreda, he said, adding, a rice pulping machine would be given to farmers.

Some of the farmers who took part in the rice development said the woreda's climate and land is favorable for rice production.

The said they are expecting high yield of rice from the current crop season.
