Addis Ababa, October 21, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The famous American R&B singer, Beyoncé Knowles, staged performance at Bole Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa on Saturday as part of the big new Ethiopian Millennium celebration.Thousands of Beyonce’s fans gathered at the 10 million USD millennium halls to take part in the jamboree, a long awaited event.
“This is a beautiful country. This is an overwhelming day, it just makes me feel blessed that I am able to bless other people.” the 26-year old artist told ENA prior to her show.
Regarding the new Ethiopian millennium Beyoncé said, “The millennium is exciting. It is very different. I don’t understand how we have two different millenniums. But I know how it [was] in the year 2,000, it is very exciting. And I am happy to be a part of it.”
She said she learned a lot about Ethiopia. “I didn’t know much about Ethiopia, now I have learned a lot.”
She visited the museums in Addis Ababa and orphanages here in the capital and transplanted tree seedlings in the capital.
“It is so much history here. It gives you a great sense of life and value when you come here,” she added.
“It is my first time here and I have to say that it is so much more than I expected, it is such a beautiful country. I love to come back here.” She said.
According to her, she in collaboration with her pastor launched GLOBAL ANTI-HUNGER INITIATIVE, a virtual food drive, which people from all over the world can go to the website designed for the same cause and purchase food which goes to the needy people in three countries including Ethiopia."I like to come back here and continue all the work."
Famous Artists including Ludacris along with other local artists including Aster Aweke, Ephrem Tamiru, Gossaye Tesfaye, Tadele Roba, Berhanu Tezera also presented their songs that added color to the event.
