World Bank provides 215 million USD for Basic Services in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, December 21, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved on Friday 215 million USD grant to Ethiopia to continue protecting and promoting the delivery of basic services by regional government while deepening transparency and local accountability in service delivery.

In a statement it sent to ENA the bank said the money would be used for promoting the delivery of basic service by regional government and promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),

The bank said some 215 million USD has been committed in the last 18 months for the implementation of Protection of Basic Service (PBS) Programs.

The WB's Executive Board recognized and appreciated the impressive impact the PBS is having on the expansion of basic service in Ethiopia, it said.

The WB said the Ethiopian government commitment has demonstrated in expanding pro-poor public service and central to the achievement of the MDGs.
